Crossover in tunneling hops in systems of strongly localized electrons

Accurate Monte Carlo simulation data show a consistent crossover in different characteristics of tunneling hops in two-dimensional systems of strongly localized electrons in the presence of scattering and quantum interference of hopping paths. The results also suggest a negative answer to the question of whether there is a two-dimensional sign phase transition. The fractal behavior observed in the direction perpendicular to the hopping direction is found to be similar to that for eigenstates in one-dimensional localized systems.
