The RENCONTRES DU VIETNAM and the INSTITUTE OF PHYSICS AND ELECTRONICS (VAST), Hanoi, with support from CNRS (France), the Abdus Salam ICTP (Trieste, Italy) are organizing the "XI-th Vietnam School of Physics" in Da-Nang: COLLEGE OF EDUCATION - THE UNIVERSITY OF DANANG from 27 December 2004 to 07 January 2005. The School will be devoted to the study of QUANTUM FIELD THEORY AND APPLICATIONS TO CONDENSED MATTER AND PARTICLE PHYSICS The Vietnam School of Physics is part of a series of high level international scientific meetings which have been held, since 1993, in various cities of Vietnam. These meetings cover such topics as Particle and Nuclear Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Astrophysics, Instrumentation and Advanced Technologies and bring together scientists from South East Asia and from all over the world. Like the previous Vietnam Schools of Physics which took place since 1994, the XI-th School will deal with the concepts and methods of Quantum Field Theory and their applications to particle physics and condensed matter physics. The School lasts two weeks and includes lectures as well as "exercise sessions" where the concepts introduced in the lectures will be worked out on practical examples. Furthermore, participants will be encouraged to present their field of interest in short contributions prepared with the help of senior participants. Throughout the School special emphasis will be put on pedagogical aspects. Applicants should have completed a Master's degree (or equivalent) in physics. Preference will be given to young physicists working towards a Ph.D. degree or working at a post-doctoral level. More senior physicists, however, are also welcome to apply. To facilitate the interactions among participants, and especially among "students" and "lecturers", the attendance is limited to about 40 students, expected to come principally from Vietnam and Asian countries. Some partial support may be available for participants from South-East Asia. |
